Living with ADHD: It's Links to the Warrior Archetype and Astrological Indicators
Could connecting with our unique genetic gifts lead to success for people with ADHD?
Living with ADHD means navigating a world where my brain operates differently. It's a constant flip between bursts of creativity and periods of distraction, between moments of hyper-focus and spells of forgetfulness. ADHD is often seen through a clinical lens, but it's much more than just a set of symptoms. It's a unique way of experiencing and interacting with the world, full of both challenges and incredible strengths.
The challenges of ADHD are real and pervasive. I often struggle with maintaining focus, staying organised and managing impulsivity. These difficulties can make everyday tasks daunting and have led to frustration in academic, professional and personal areas. However, there are significant strengths that come with ADHD. My creativity, energy and ability to think outside the box are direct results of my ADHD. When harnessed properly, these traits can be powerful assets, enabling me to excel in dynamic and innovative environments.
Neurodiversity and Judy Singer's Perspective
The concept of neurodiversity, brought to light by sociologist Judy Singer in the 1990s, frames ADHD and other neurological variations as natural differences rather than disorders. This perspective has been transformative for me. It shifts the focus from what is "wrong" to what is different and unique about how my brain works. Recognising ADHD as part of the broader spectrum of human difference has helped me see my traits as valuable rather than simply problematic.
Astrological Connections
Astrology offers another fascinating lens through which to understand ADHD. My astrological chart features Mars rising and a Mercury-Uranus conjunction in Sagittarius. These placements align closely with my experience of ADHD.
Mars Rising - Mars is the warrior planet, symbolising energy, drive, and action. Having Mars prominent in my chart means I am always on the move, full of vitality and a strong desire to act. This energy can sometimes translate into restlessness and impulsivity, hallmarks of ADHD.
Mercury/Uranus Conjunction in Sagittarius - Mercury governs communication and thought processes, while Uranus represents innovation, unpredictability and rebellion. The conjunction of these planets in Sagittarius, a mutable sign, reflects my rapid, unconventional thinking and a constant quest for new knowledge and experiences. This aspect mirrors the cognitive speed and tendency towards distraction that are characteristic of ADHD.
Genetics and the Warrior Archetype
There is a genetic component to ADHD, with various studies identifying multiple genes contributing. Historically, traits associated with ADHD—such as high energy, quick decision-making and risk-taking—were advantageous for survival. These traits would have made me and others like me, an excellent hunter or warrior in ancient times, where constant movement, vigilance and rapid response were critical.
Historical Versus Modern Context
In earlier societies, my ADHD traits would have been celebrated and essential. The quick thinking, adaptability and the boundless energy I possess would have been perfect for hunting, exploring, or leading in unpredictable situations.
However, the modern world often demands prolonged focus, routine and adherence to structured environments—conditions that clash with my natural tendencies. This mismatch can lead to frustration and a sense of inadequacy, sometimes pushing people, like me, with ADHD towards escapism through activities such as gaming or substance use.
Final Thoughts
Join me in embracing the old ways, the times of the warrior, where our skills were truly recognised and valued. Let’s remember a time when our ancestors' stories were passed down through oral traditions and we used symbolism as a powerful form of communication.
In the times of the old, we find wisdom and strength in the skills associated with ADHD. My hope is that by reconnecting with these timeless values, we can honor our heritage and bring a deeper, more balanced understanding to the modern lives of ourselves, our loved ones and our wider communities.

Hello, I really resonate with what you wrote! I too have looked into my own natal chart for indicators of neural divergence expressed in my template. I have Mercury square Uranus as well as Saturn in cardinal signs. Mars is conjunct my Sun in opposition to my Moon in Mars's sign Aries. I appreciate the new perspective you offer.
Hi Caroline, thanks for the insights. You must have some strong stabilising factors in your chart as well?
